Kolkata: The Public Works Department (PWD) will visit the law college in south Kolkata to assess how many CCTV cameras need to be installed on the campus, where a first-year student was raped in June last year. The college currently has three functional CCTV cameras, but it wants more than 70 cameras to ensure comprehensive safety and security coverage across the entire campus. The college requested a fund of Rs 12 lakh for the installation. After reviewing the request, the finance department gave final approval for the fund, subject to a PWD inspection to determine the required number of cameras.
The process of appointing ex-servicemen for security is underway. Sources said the inspection will take place next week, and the installation process will proceed based on the PWD report.
