District Road Safety council seeks elevated corridor accident report

Panaji: The North Goa District Road Safety Committee meeting was held on Friday wherein PWD (NH) resolved to submit the Accident Analysis Report of the fatal crash on Sept 12 that took place on the Porvorim Elevated Corridor and submit details of the agencies and officials responsible for safety audit and overall supervision of the construction of the same.TOI reported on Sept 13 that a fatal multi-vehicle accident occurred on the newly opened Porvorim elevated corridor exit near the Neo Majestic Hotel a day after its inauguration.In addition, in view of the loss of a total of 12 lives in fatal accidents in September across North Goa, the Accident Analysis Committees of the respective police stations are also going to submit reports.As fatal accidents are noticed due to broken-down vehicles left unattended, PWD (NH) is also to submit a proposal for cranes etc. to clear these vehicles along with the traffic police. Henceforth, all applications for notifying speed breakers by the district collector will be accompanied by plans drawn to scale by PWD.The meeting, which was chaired by Pravin Hire Parab, Additional Collector I, North Goa, also discussed the need for the Education Department to prepare an awareness-cum-enforcement action plan on underage driving with the assistance of the directorate of transport and traffic cell of the Goa Police. The Awareness Campaign on Don’t Drink and Drive launched as a joint effort of Goa Medical College and District Collectorate North Goa was endorsed.
