Pune: Cybercrooks duped a private company employee from Charholi of Rs 6.41 lakh under the pretext of updating his credit card in Oct last year.The victim initially filed an online complaint. After preliminary investigations, a case was registered with the Dighi police on Wednesday.An officer from the Dighi police said the fraudsters contacted the victim in Oct last year and offered to enroll him on an online platform that provided special offers related to his bank.“The victim accepted the offer, and the crooks sent him a link. After he clicked the link, an application was automatically downloaded onto his cellphone,” the officer said.The officer said the application was a remote access app, which allowed the fraudsters to gain access to the victim’s cellphone. “Using this access, they opened a credit card application on the victim’s phone and carried out transactions worth Rs 6.41 lakh using his credit card details,” the officer added. “The victim realised he had been cheated when he received alerts from his bank about the transactions,” he said.
