TIMES NEWS NETWORKMangaluru: Puttige village in Moodubidire taluk of Dakshina Kannada and Kotathattu village in Brahmavar taluk of Udupi district have been selected as Model Solar Villages under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.To select a model solar village for the central govt’s ambitious scheme in Dakshina Kannada, a district-level committee initially shortlisted 13 villages. Among these, Puttige village had the highest capacity of solar units installed by Dec 31, 2025. To select a model solar village for the central govt’s ambitious project in Udupi district, a district-level committee initially shortlisted five villages. Among these, Kotathattu village in Brahmavar taluk had the highest capacity of solar units installed by Dec 31, 2025. The villages were selected as a Model Solar Village during a meeting held on Feb 19, chaired by the regional commissioner, Mysuru division. According to a Mescom press release, the department of new and renewable energy will provide a grant of Rs 1 crore each to the implementing agencies for developing these Model Solar Villages.
