New Delhi: A rescue operation lasting over 16 hours was carried out inside the Tihar Jail complex after a puppy fell into a deep borewell on Thursday, but the animal could not be saved.According to the Delhi Fire Service (DFS), a call was received around 12.53 am about a puppy trapped in a borewell, following which fire tenders were rushed to the spot.Personnel of the Tamil Nadu Special Police Force (TSP) deployed at the jail first heard sounds from inside the borewell, confirming the presence of the puppy.DFS teams worked through the night to rescue the animal. The borewell, estimated to be 120–150 feet deep, had a submersible pump installed inside, which was removed along with connected pipes to clear the shaft. A waterproof camera was later lowered nearly 100 feet to locate the puppy.On Friday, teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) joined the operation, and the puppy was later found trapped beneath a metal hook-like structure but had died; officials said the body was retrieved.
