Hisar: In a crackdown on drug trafficking, the CIA team of Fatehabad police arrested one person and recovered a large quantity of opium and poppy from his possession.The contraband was being transported in a combine harvester, said the police.CIA in-charge sub-inspector Vedpal said the police team was on patrol near the new bus stand area when they received a tip-off. Acting swiftly, a naka was set up on the highway bypass, and a suspicious combine harvester was intercepted.On seeing the police, the driver attempted to flee, but he was apprehended by the team. He was identified as Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Phulera village in Sangrur district of Punjab, said Vedpal.During a search conducted in the presence of a gazetted officer, the police recovered 1.018 kg of opium from the cabin of the machine and 109.58 kg of poppy husk packed in three sacks kept at the rear, he added.The contraband was seized and sealed on the spot. The combine harvester and a motorcycle were also taken into custody. During preliminary questioning, the arrested accused confessed to procuring the contraband from Madhya Pradesh for further supply, said the sub-inspector.A case has been registered against the accused at the Fatehabad City police station under the NDPS Act, and an investigation is underway to identify other members of the network, he said.MSID:: 130189773 413 |
