An Assistant Sub-Inspector in Tarn Taran, Punjab, reportedly died by suicide using his service pistol after completing his duty.

TARN TARAN: An assistant sub-inspector posted as the in-charge of the Kairon police outpost in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district allegedly died by suicide by shooting himself with his service pistol after completing his duty on Thursday night.According to police, ASI Amarjit Singh had been serving at the outpost for the past four months. After finishing checkpoint (nakabandi) duty, he had dinner with colleagues before retiring to his quarters, where he allegedly shot himself.Hearing the gunshot, fellow police personnel rushed to his room and found him lying in a pool of blood, with his service pistol nearby. He was taken to hospital, where he was declared dead.His body has been kept at the Civil Hospital mortuary for postmortem. Police have launched an investigation and are examining all possible angles behind the suicide.Senior Superintendent of Police Surendra Lamba confirmed the incident and said preliminary investigations suggest Amarjit Singh was facing a personal issue. Police are recording statements of his family members as part of the probe.Sources, however, claimed the ASI had been under stress due to staff shortages and an increasing workload, and had repeatedly sought a transfer. SSP Lamba denied these claims, saying the investigation was still underway.The incident comes months after another ASI, Gurmeet Singh, who was deployed on security duty at the Patti court complex, allegedly shot himself with his service pistol. He later succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
