Pune: A Pune court has granted bail to two 23-year-old students arrested in connection with the alleged robbery of a bag containing Rs 25 lakh, noting that the investigating officer had not indicated that any further recovery or discovery was required from them. The court also noted that they had no criminal antecedents.Additional sessions judge R N Hiwase granted bail to Yash Bhagwan Kondhalkar and Karan Bhagwan Kondhalkar in a case registered at Sahakarnagar police station under sections 309(6), 310(2), 61(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The two had been in custody since May 28, 2026 — for about 80 days.According to the prosecution, the complainant was travelling to his office on a two-wheeler when two men riding a scooty allegedly confronted him, claiming that he had hit their vehicle. One of the men allegedly scuffled with him, while the other sprayed an unknown substance into his eyes, forcibly snatched his bag and fled towards Sambhajinagar. The bag allegedly contained Rs 25 lakh, 1,100 Malaysian ringgit and 2,500 Dubai dirhams.Opposing the bail applications, the prosecution submitted that the applicants were the main accused and had actively participated in the commission of the offence. It also said recovery had been made from them and apprehended that their release could lead to tampering with prosecution witnesses. The defence argued that the applicants had been falsely implicated, were students with no criminal antecedents, and that the discovery and recovery proceedings had already been completed while they were in custody. After considering the submissions from both sides, the judge noted that the investigating officer had not stated that any further recovery or discovery was required from the applicants. The court also took into account their nearly 80-day custody, lack of criminal antecedents and age, observing that “the trial will take its own time”.
