Srinagar, Oct 10:  Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla Gurinderpal Singh on Saturday credited public cooperation for the successful detection of theft cases in Pattan and Kreeri, resulting in the recovery of stolen properties.

Addressing a press conference in Pattan, the SSP said the cooperation of local residents played a crucial role in the investigation, with people providing CCTV footage, assisting in recording statements and sharing information that helped police develop leads in the cases.

He said the recovery would not have been possible on such a scale without the public approaching the police and extending their support during the investigation.

“The police can be successful only when local people stand with us. We are here to serve them, and I urge everyone to maintain faith in the police and approach us with their issues and complaints. We are available 24/7, throughout the year, and will make every possible effort to resolve their cases,” Singh said.

The SSP said police were committed to helping people whenever they faced any wrongdoing or required assistance.

He also urged people to report any grievances regarding police functioning, saying they could approach senior officers if their genuine complaints were not addressed or if they were dissatisfied with the response of officials at the junior level.

“There is a proper hierarchy in the police department, with officers assigned specific responsibilities. If a junior officer is not addressing an issue, people can bring it to the notice of the next senior officer. This will also help us improve the policing system,” he said.

Emphasising the importance of public trust in crime detection, Singh said community participation was essential not only in reporting offences but also in providing evidence and information that could assist investigators.

The theft cases were solved by police in the Pattan and Kreeri areas, with the recovery of stolen copper utensils, mobile phones, cash and other property collectively.

The SSP thanked the residents for approaching the police and assisting investigators, describing public support as the key factor behind the recoveries.
