Kanpur: Tension gripped Etawah’s Ikdil area after the body of a 30-year-old man, missing since Monday, was found hanging from a tree in ravines near Manikpur village on Tuesday. Family members alleged murder and accused police of negligence in acting on their complaint.The deceased, identified as Ranjit of Nagla Bar village, had left home on Monday afternoon and later went untraceable after his phone was switched off. His wife Pooja alleged that despite informing the Manikpur Mohan police outpost, no prompt search operation was launched.On Wednesday, angry villagers and family members attempted to march towards the SSP residence with the body but were stopped near Civil Lines police station, triggering a road blockade and sloganeering against police. The protest continued for nearly an hour before officials pacified the crowd.The family claimed Ranjit was murdered and his body was later hanged using a plastic rope. They also pointed to injury marks on his neck and cited an old land dispute in the village. Villagers alleged that timely police action could have saved his life.CO City Abhay Narayan Rai said a panel conducted the post-mortem and the exact cause of death would be known after the report arrives.
