Mangaluru: A meeting of the Brahmarakootlu Toll Gate Removal Struggle Committee, Bantwal, was held on Wednesday under the leadership of its honorary president and former minister B Ramanath Rai. Representatives of various organisations from Bantwal taluk and several social activists attended the meeting in large numbers.Committee conveners B Shekhar and Mohan Shetty outlined the background of the agitation. The meeting reviewed the impact of the two earlier phases of protests demanding removal of the toll gate. It was decided to organise a massive Janandolana Nadige (protest march) on April 28, mobilising thousands of people from Brahmashree Narayana Guru Circle to the toll gate. Rai and anti-toll activist Muneer Katipalla briefed the gathering on the plan and the structure of the march, which will be taken out between 4pm and 5.30pm. Preparatory meetings will be held in all taluks of Dakshina Kannada district, and public-outreach campaigns will be conducted in key areas of Bantwal through direct engagement with people. Support will be sought from all pro-people organisations, transport unions and social groups in the taluk.
