Mangaluru: In light of the poor conditions of road in Mangaluru City, especially the main road from Pumpwell Junction to Kankanady and Bendorewell, the DYFI Mangaluru City Committee demanded that the roads be completely repaired and immediately concretised. Additionally, they are calling for scientific measures at Pumpwell to ensure the smooth drainage of rainwater. The DYFI will hold a protest by displaying posters at Kankanady Junction on Monday at 5.30pm.Naveen Konchady, secretary of DYFI Mangaluru City Committee, said that the main road connecting Mangaluru city, starting from Pumpwell and extending to Kankanady and Bendorewell, is in a state of disrepair. Numerous potholes along the road obstruct the smooth flow of traffic. Additionally, daily traffic jams cause inconvenience to school students and workers, preventing them from reaching their destinations on time. Due to the recent heavy rains, the potholes are filled with water, leading to accidents involving two-wheeler riders, resulting in fatalities, he said.Despite most roads within the jurisdiction of the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) being concretised, this main road has yet to be repaired. Even with hundreds of crores allocated under the Smart City project, the authorities have failed to develop this road. The mismanagement of the main road connecting the city, along with the unscientific constructions around Pumpwell Junction, has led to artificial flooding during rainy season, with water filling the roads beneath the national highway flyover. The corporation’s administration has been unable to address these issues due to its negligence, he added.
