Kanpur: Two fire incidents occurred in the city from Thursday night to Friday morning at two places. Though the fire caused damage to property, no casualties were reported.A fire broke out early Friday morning in shanties and a scrap warehouse in Barra 7. Seeing the flames rising, panic spread among the residents of the surrounding areas. Police and fire services were immediately informed. The blaze was brought under control after 3 hours of effort with the help of several fire engines that arrived at the spot. However, the cause of the fire could not be ascertained.SHO Gujaini police station Rajan Sharma said that people had illegally encroached upon an area and set up shanties and scrap warehouses. On Friday morning, around 7 o’clock, local residents reported the fire. Following this, 7 vehicles of police and fire personnel reached the spot. After about 3 hours of effort, the fire personnel brought the fire under control. However, there were no casualties due to the fire. The cause of the fire is being investigated.Similarly, another fire incident occurred late Thursday night in a warehouse in Naubasta in Juhi police station area. When the people in the surrounding area noticed smoke rising from the warehouse, they reached the spot, and found that flames were rising from the rear side of the warehouse.With the help of local residents, the goods stored in the warehouse were taken out, and police and fire services were informed. The fire was brought under control with the help of three fire engines that arrived at the spot.The owner of the warehouse said that as the information was received in time, goods worth only Rs 8 lakh were destroyed in the fire and rest of the goods were safely removed with the help of people.Meanwhile, chief fire officer Deepak Sharma said that the fire appears to have been caused by a short circuit.
