Varanasi: A team of Sonbhadra police completed formalities of attaching movable properties (household goods) of Vijay Gupta, accomplice of codeine cough syrup smuggling syndicate kingpin Shubham Jaiswal, in Kabirchaura area of Varanasi, on Friday evening.According to Sonbhadra SP Abhishek Verma, Gupta has been absconding since the case was lodged in 2025 at Robertsganj police station. Sonbhadra court of Special Judge (SC/ST Act) had ordered attachment of property owned by Gupta, proprietor of Shivshakti Pharma, through which the racket was being operated.A team of Sonbhadra police raided Gupta’s residence in Gola Deenanath area of Kabirchaura locality in Varanasi on Friday evening and completed the proceedings. A proclamation was made in the presence of local witnesses and movable property including various household goods was duly attached. The multi-thousand-crore codeine cough syrup scam’s key accused, along with kingpin Jaiswal, are absconding. Shubham’s father, Bhola Jaiswal, and several other accused have been arrested, while movable and immovable properties of many of them have also been forfeited by police.
