Ahmedabad: As input costs rise for the textile industry, some processing houses that undertake job work on grey fabric had decided to pass the increase on to textile traders. Textile traders opposed this additional 1% charge on the job work bill, leading to a series of meetings to address the issue. It has now been decided that processing houses will not apply the additional charge to grey cloth received before June 30.Maskati Cloth Market Mahajan president Gaurang Bhagat said, “This issue affected all traders because a 1% additional charge could amount to a significant sum. Traders argued that since the orders were placed earlier and the fabric had already reached processing houses, there should not be any change in the usual billing amount.”Bhagat added, “Following discussions, it has been decided that no processing house will charge extra for fabric received before June 30. For job orders received after June 30, processing houses will charge a mutually agreed amount. In cases where fabric was processed before June 30 and traders have already been billed the additional 1%, processing houses will issue a credit note to the traders.”
