Chandrapur : Congress Legislature Party functionary and MLA Vijay Wadettiwar has demanded a high-level inquiry into the execution of the ₹235-crore Gosikhurd Right Bank Canal project, alleging that poor-quality construction and collusion between contractors and officials led to cracks in the canal within a year, affecting irrigation for farmers in Brahmapuri taluka.During an inspection of the canal near Torgaon in Bramhapuri taluka on Friday, Wadettiwar accused the contractor and irrigation department engineers of working in collusion, claiming public money was being wasted while farmers continued to suffer due to delayed water supply.According to officials, a ₹235-crore contract for repairing critical stretches of the canal was awarded to three private companies nearly two years ago. However, only about 15% of the work has reportedly been completed despite the expiry of the stipulated deadline. Wadettiwar claimed the completed portions had already developed cracks and subsidence, raising concerns over construction quality.He recalled that farmers had earlier staged protests over delayed irrigation water, but alleged that the administration failed to take corrective measures. He demanded that one of the three companies be blacklisted and that officials, engineers and contractors found responsible face stringent action after an independent investigation.Executive engineer Suhas More and other irrigation department officials were present during the inspection. Wadettiwar directed them to undertake immediate repairs and ensure uninterrupted irrigation water to farmers, stating that negligence in a major project like Gosikhurd was causing avoidable losses to the farming community.
