Ludhiana: Police have booked a private bank employee for allegedly raping a young woman after enticing her with a false promise of marriage.The suspect (identity concealed for legal reasons) is accused of maintaining a relationship with the complainant for over 18 months, during which he allegedly convinced her and her family of his intent to wed.According to the police report, the woman’s family formally met with the bank employee, who provided his consent to the union. The complainant has alleged that bank employee took her to various tourist destinations, including Manali and Kasauli, where he established physical relations with her under the repeated assurance of a forthcoming court marriage.The matter reached a breaking point when the woman and her family arrived at the Jagraon court for the scheduled ceremony. The bank employee reportedly told the woman over telephone that he would arrive within two hours but failed to appear and left her at the altar. He has since allegedly severed all contact and refused to answer her calls.Sadar Raikot police registered the case under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) following a preliminary investigation. Cops are searching for the suspect.
