Dhanbad: Jail inspector general Sudarshan Mandal carried out a surprise inspection at Dhanbad Divisional Jail on Friday, during which he undertook comprehensive review of the prison’s security system, inmate facilities, and adherence to the jail manual.He inspected various sections of the jail premises, including barracks, security posts, the main entrance, and surveillance mechanisms. Issuing clear instructions, Mandal emphasised that any negligence in security would not be tolerated under any circumstances.The IG closely examined the alertness of security personnel, CCTV monitoring, entry and exit protocols, and the level of emergency preparedness within the facility. He also reviewed the availability of basic amenities for inmates such as food, drinking water, healthcare services, and sanitation.Speaking to media, Mandal stated that ensuring prison security is a top priority for the state and any lapse could lead to serious consequences. He directed officials to strictly follow the jail manual while also ensuring that the rights of inmates are fully respected.Special emphasis was laid on maintaining a smooth and transparent visitation system. The IG instructed that family members visiting inmates should not face inconvenience and that procedures must be simplified and well-organised.Additionally, Mandal inspected cleanliness across the premises, including the kitchen, and checked the quality of food being served. He directed the jail administration to maintain hygiene standards and provide quality meals as per prescribed norms.Concluding the inspection, the IG instructed officials to strictly implement all directives, stressing that regular monitoring and discipline are essential to improving prison administration.
