Wardha: President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday visited Sevagram Ashram and paid tribute to the ideals of self-reliance and khadi championed by Mahatma Gandhi by spinning the charkha. At Bapukuti, the President engaged in thread-making, drawing attention from those present as she highlighted the enduring relevance of Gandhian philosophy. She then toured key sites within the ashram, including Adi Niwas, Ba Kuti, and Gandhi’s office, where she was briefed on his simple lifestyle and work.Murmu also participated in prayer meeting and spent time experiencing the discipline and minimalism that define the ashram. She planted a sapling during her visit, conveying a message on environmental conservation.Earlier, the President was received at Sevagram helipad by Maharashtra governor Jishnu Dev Varma, revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, guardian minister Pankaj Bhoyar, collector Vanmathi C, and other dignitaries.The visit underscored the historical and cultural importance of Sevagram Ashram, instilling pride among citizens while the administration ensured smooth coordination of the high-profile programme.
