Jhunjhunu: A 25-year-old pregnant woman, who was allegedly attacked by a neighbour with a knife in Sarwadi village under Dhod police station in Sikar district three days ago, died during treatment at Jaipur’s SMS Hospital Friday. The accused attacker had already been arrested Thursday.The victim, identified as Priyanka, suffered a throat-slitting injury and multiple cuts on her hands and legs in the July 28 attack. Her body has been kept in the mortuary for postmortem, with her family protesting to demand speedy justice through a fast-track court.Police said Priyanka was sleeping at her parental home with her three-year-old son when the accused, identified as Suresh Saini, entered and attacked her. She was first taken to SK Hospital in Sikar, where doctors treated her for around 24 hours, before referring to SMS Hospital as her condition remained critical.Police said Priyanka continued to lose blood after the six-month-old foetus in her womb died following the attack. Investigators said she may have died due to infection or blood loss. Priyanka died around 11.15am Friday.Dhod police said the accused was arrested Thursday. During questioning, police said, Saini told investigators he attacked Priyanka after being scolded by his brother. Police said a petty argument between Priyanka and Saini escalated after she complained against him to her husband. Her husband raised the issue with Saini’s brothers, who work with him in Maharashtra. In turn, one of the brothers scolded Saini for fighting with Priyanka. Police said Saini, peeved at the scolding, planned the revenge and allegedly procured a knife from a village shop between July 23 and 24 and carried out the attack on July 28, before changing clothes and fleeing.Police said a murder charge will now be added to the case, which was earlier registered on the complaint of Priyanka’s father for attempt to murder. Priyanka’s matrimonial home is in the Kuchaman area, but she had been staying at her parental home for about three months due to her pregnancy.
