Prayagraj: Denizens of Sangam City got rid of the prevailing sultry weather on Friday as widespread cloud cover, cool easterly winds and heavy rain brought much-needed relief in almost every part of Prayagraj district. However, city also witnessed water logging and overflowing drains because of heavy rains. The city witnessed overcast conditions since Friday morning, but rainfall was initially confined to a few pockets, particularly Jhunsi and several trans-Yamuna areas. Most parts of the urban region remained dry during the first half of the day, with high humidity making weather conditions uncomfortable for residents. The weather underwent a noticeable change around noon when dark rain-bearing clouds approached, accompanied by cool breezes. Thereafter, several of the urban as well as rural pockets of the district experienced moderate to heavy spells of rain. The rainfall, which continued till late night, helped bring down the day’s discomfort in the affected areas and provided respite from the humid conditions that persisted over the past few days. However, heavy rain also caused water logging in several localities and important roads. The rain continued to drench the city till late night. The maximum temperature settled at 36.6 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 27.8 degrees Celsius.Meteorologists attributed the changing weather to active monsoon conditions over eastern Uttar Pradesh, aided by favourable easterly winds carrying moisture into the region. The intermittent rainfall also helped moderate daytime temperatures in the areas that received showers. The IMD forecast light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms at isolated places in Prayagraj over the next two days. Officials advised residents to remain cautious during periods of intense showers, as waterlogging may occur in low-lying areas if heavy rain continues. With the monsoon expected to remain active, weather conditions are likely to stay cloudy, with intermittent spells of rain and relatively lower daytime temperatures during the weekend.
