Prayagraj: Preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections have gathered pace with the completion of the special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in the district. The process of filing claims and objections concluded on Friday, recording a significant jump in new voter registrations.District election officials said 2,66,237 new applicants submitted Form-6 during the campaign reflecting higher participation from young and first-time voters. These applications will now undergo detailed scrutiny before being added to the final electoral roll scheduled for publication on April 10. When the draft roll was released on Jan 6, Prayagraj had 35,36,555 registered voters. After two months of intensive revision, officials expect the total number to rise to around 38,02,792, marking a notable expansion in the electorate. As part of the exercise, the administration also focused on cleaning up the existing voter database. During verification, 10.62 lakh voters were flagged as “suspected” due to logical inconsistencies or mapping-related issues. Notices were issued to 9.36 lakh voters, and hearings were completed in 9.19 lakh cases. Officials said the verification process would continue to ensure a transparent and accurate voter list. Authorities added that although the special revision drive has concluded, voter registration remains open throughout the year. Eligible citizens, especially youth who recently turned 18, can still apply for inclusion in the electoral rolls.
