Prayagraj: Police in Prayagraj on Sunday said they have completed legal formalities to bring Arman, a wanted suspect in the Umesh Pal murder case carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh, from Bihar’s Gaya Central Jail on transit remand and produce him before a local court on Monday or Tuesday.Arman is among the key accused who had been absconding in connection with the Feb 2023 killing of lawyer Umesh Pal and his two security personnel. Umesh Pal and his gunners were shot dead near his residence in Sulem Sarai under Dhoomanganj police station limits.Following a complaint by Umesh Pal’s wife, Dhoomanganj police registered an FIR under relevant sections against Atiq, his brother Ashraf and others. In the aftermath of the shooting, Atiq’s son Asad and other accused, including shooter Ghulam and Usman, were killed in separate encounters involving police and STF. Atiq and Ashraf were later shot dead by unknown assailants near Colvin Hospital campus in April 2023.Police said they had been searching for Arman for nearly three years when investigators found he was lodged in Gaya jail in connection with another case. After confirming his custody status, Dhoomanganj police moved the court in Gaya for transit remand.A senior police officer said the transit remand application was approved by the court on Oct 1. He added that after completion of documentation, Arman is expected to be produced before the concerned court in Prayagraj on Oct 5 or the following day.
