Prayagraj: Train passengers using Prayagraj Junction are likely to get a major boost in last-mile connectivity, with the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) planning to introduce electric bus services from the Civil Lines side of the railway station. The proposal is being prepared, and routes will be finalised after the ongoing redevelopment work reaches its final stage.Officials said the Civil Lines side of Prayagraj Junction is undergoing extensive redevelopment, which is expected to be completed by Dec this year. Once the upgraded entry and exit roads become operational, UPSRTC plans to integrate the station with its electric bus network, enabling passengers to access city bus services directly from the station premises, similar to facilities available at major airports.Officials said the service will be launched after the arrival of a new fleet of electric buses allotted to Prayagraj. Operators contracted to run the electric buses have also submitted a proposal seeking permission to operate services through the junction.Authorities estimate that the service could become operational within five to six months of the completion of redevelopment work. Trial runs and fare fixation are expected to be completed beforehand to ensure a smooth rollout. At present, no city or electric buses operate from the Civil Lines side of Prayagraj Junction. Passengers, particularly those arriving at Platforms 6 to 10, depend on autorickshaws and e-rickshaws to reach nearby bus stands and other parts of the city. The proposed service is expected to bridge this gap and improve commuter convenience.UPSRTC regional manager Ravindra Kumar Singh said the electric buses allotted to Prayagraj would operate on multiple routes, including Prayagraj Junction. He said the initiative was aimed at improving urban connectivity and providing seamless, environment-friendly transport for railway passengers. The service is expected to enhance commuter convenience while promoting the use of clean public transport in the city.
