Prayagraj: The UP Board has been entrusted with the responsibility of developing a State Curriculum Framework (SCF) to implement the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2023 across secondary education in the state, marking a major step towards transforming classroom teaching and learning for more than one crore students studying in Classes 9 to 12.The new curriculum framework will be implemented in over 29,000 schools affiliated with the Board. The initiative aims to redefine what students learn, how they are taught, and the methods through which their academic progress is assessed. The move follows the approval of the required budget by the Union Ministry of Education under the annual work plan and budget for the 2026-27 academic session on the proposal submitted by Samagra Shiksha, Lucknow.According to Board Secretary, Bhagwati Singh, the SCF will serve as a roadmap for curriculum planning, classroom pedagogy and student assessment in line with the vision of NCF 2023. It will provide a comprehensive framework to ensure that teaching practices become more relevant, effective and learner-centric.Additional Secretary (Textbooks) of the Board, Skand Shukla, said the process of drafting the framework will begin in July with a series of offline and online workshops. Subject experts, educationists and academicians from across Uttar Pradesh will participate in these deliberations to prepare a curriculum that reflects both national priorities and regional aspirations. One of the key features of the new framework will be the inclusion of the Indian Knowledge System, integrating the country’s rich intellectual and cultural heritage into classroom learning. The curriculum will also focus on making education more creative, practical and student-centred while promoting critical thinking, problem-solving skills and innovation among learners. The proposed framework seeks to move away from rote learning by encouraging conceptual understanding and experiential learning. It also aims to connect education with local languages, culture and everyday life, making learning more meaningful for students. Ensuring inclusive education and equal learning opportunities for all students will remain another important objective.SCF will cover major components of secondary education, including the teaching-learning process, assessment system, teachers’ role, school environment and educational resources. Once finalised, it is expected to play a pivotal role in aligning secondary education in Uttar Pradesh with the objectives of the National Education Policy and NCF 2023, fostering holistic development and preparing students with the skills required for the future.
