PRAYAGRAJ: Continuing its crackdown against mafia and gangsters, police on Tuesday attached properties worth Rs 110 crore belonging to slain don-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad, which were allegedly accumulated through illegal means, at Mauja Bhiti Taluka Asadullapur and Mauja Kathula Gauspur in Sadar tehsil under the Gangster Act.This was the first major property attachment exercise carried out by the district police against slain gangster Atiq Ahmed in the district after his killing. The properties, located in Asadullapur and Kathula Gauspur under the limits of Sadar tehsil in Prayagraj district, are valued at around Rs 110 crore (as per market estimates) and are spread over approximately 20.38 bighas, police officials said.A senior police officer told TOI that the investigating officer of Cantt police station, while probing a case (Crime No. 200/2020) registered under the Gangster Act at Dhoomanganj police station, compiled relevant inputs and submitted a report before the court of the Prayagraj Police Commissioner seeking attachment of the properties spread across 20.38 bighas of land belonging to slain gangster Atiq Ahmed.After examining records and conducting further investigations, police found that the properties were allegedly benami assets of slain mafia Atiq Ahmad, which he had initially purchased in the name of a person belonging to another community.Following orders from the concerned authorities, a joint team of police and revenue officials first made a public announcement at the site and later attached the properties. They also installed a notice board mentioning the attachment of the properties, an official added.The entire exercise was conducted amid tight security.
