Raichur: A complaint was registered at the Raichur West police station against All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) activists on Wednesday night for allegedly threatening and verbally abusing Union minister Pralhad Joshi and Raichur MLA Shivraj Patil.Based on a complaint by district BJP unit president Veeranagouda Patil Lekkihal, police filed an FIR against six individuals, including AIIMS activists Ashok Jain, Basavaraj Kalasa, Mr Berry, and S Mareppa. The district BJP unit earlier submitted a similar complaint to the deputy commissioner on Wednesday.According to the complaint, during a press conference at Patrika Bhavan in Raichur on June 24, the accused used offensive language against Union Minister Pralhad Joshi and issued threats of physical assault with stones, brooms, and slippers.Veeranagouda Patil Lekkihal stated that such statements could create social unrest and disturb harmony. He emphasised that a Union minister was subjected to both derogatory comments and life threats, requesting immediate criminal proceedings against the accused and their associates.MLA Shivaraj Patil demanded an apology from the AIIMS activists, stating, “I urge the police to detain them and initiate legal proceedings. If not, I cannot be held accountable for any consequences that may arise.”The MLA also accused AIIMS protest leader Basavaraj Kalasa and his associates of acting as Congress party agents rather than genuine AIIMS advocates. He stated that for Ashok Kumar Jain, who threatened to assault the union minister with slippers, “We will retaliate by forcing those same slippers into his mouth, undressing him, and parading him in a procession.”Police registered a complaint under sections 352 and 351(2)(3), though no arrests have been made. Meanwhile, the AIIMS activists continue their sit-in protest, which has reached its 1141st day.
