T’puram: Chief Minister V D Satheesan on Tuesday inaugurated the construction of a groyne at Pozhiyoor in Parassala and said the govt was committed to supporting coastal communities and fishermen.Satheesan said the project was being implemented within 100 days of the govt taking office. Recalling his visit to Pozhiyoor when he was the opposition leader, he said he had witnessed the difficulties faced by coastal residents and raised the issue in the assembly.He expressed hope that the groyne would help address the hardships faced by coastal residents and assured them that their problems would be resolved in a time-bound manner.The CM also said measures were being taken to resolve issues on the Karamana-Kaliyikkavila road. He said instructions had been issued after the state budget to prepare a detailed project report for developing the Vazhimukku-Amaravila stretch. Road development work would begin after the DPR is completed, he added.Satheesan said the govt’s vision was to transform Keralam into a port-based state by integrating Vizhinjam and Kochi ports with the coastal region.Water resources minister Mons Joseph, who presided over the function, announced that the AVM Canal at Pozhiyoor would be renovated to address health-related concerns in the area. A special project would be prepared and implemented for the canal, he said.Hundreds of fishermen attended the function held at Pozhiyoor UP School.
