Jaipur: The AIIMS common recruitment exam retest at a centre in Sitapura was cancelled Monday after a power outage disrupted the computer-based examination. This comes just a day after the NEET-PG exam at the same centre was cancelled for similar reasons.The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, said the cancelled test will be held again on Sept 7 for candidates affected by the disruption, adding that revised admit cards will be issued through the examination portal.Monday’s retest was conducted after the initial exam conducted nationwide by AIIMS in the last week of July was cancelled over reported out-of-syllabus questions.

Candidates said the exam, scheduled to begin at 9 am, started around 30 minutes late and was repeatedly disrupted by system shutdowns. Several students protested outside the centre, demanding a refund of exam fees and closure of the facility.“The examination scheduled on Aug 31 in the morning shift at ION Digital Zone IDZ Sitapura, Jaipur, was initially interrupted due to an unforeseen power failure beyond the control of the examination authorities,” AIIMS Delhi said in a statement.“Although the power supply was subsequently restored and the centre was made ready for resumption of the examination, (it) could not be continued due to the circumstances that developed at the centre,” AIIMS added.“After examining the matter and in the interest of all affected candidates, the competent authority has decided to reconduct the examination only for the said centre…,” the statement went on to say.AIIMS said all candidates scheduled to appear at the affected centre in that particular shift will be eligible for the re-examination.Responding to the incident, Congress MLA Sachin Pilot criticised the disruption and sought accountability.“Two days, two important exams! If students have to protest over these problems, it’s clear that expected improvements in the exam system have not been made. The responsibility for the shortcomings in the organisation of both these exams must be fixed,” he said.
