Nagpur: A fire in an electricity meter of a two-storey building on Ghat Road engulfed a shop on the ground floor, damaging stored material.According to officials, the fire started around noon after a short circuit in the meter installed outside the building on the first floor. Strong winds helped the flames spread to the shop below, where POP material, cardboard and other items were stored.Students of Nagpur Municipal Corporation school at Untkhana spotted the flames and alerted their teacher, who immediately informed the civic body’s fire and emergency services. A team from the Cotton Market fire station, led by in charge Bhagwan Wagh, reached the spot and brought the blaze under control.By then, the shop’s glow-sign board, tiles and other material had been damaged. The first floor of the building is occupied by the family of Satish Rathi, while Swastik Marble Works operates from the ground floor.Eyewitnesses said the flames were visible from a distance, triggering panic in the area. A large crowd gathered after videos of the incident circulated on social media, making it difficult for the fire brigade to carry out firefighting operations on the busy main road.
