Noida: Residents in several neighbourhoods in Noida and Ghaziabad reported intermittent power outages from Sunday midnight to Monday afternoon. The power cuts were largely linked to rain-related faults.The affected areas include sectors 11, 12, 44 and 55 in Noida, Gyand Khand and Abhay Khand in Indirapuram, Loni, Govindpuram and Shahtri Nagar in Ghaziabad.“Despite lodging multiple complaints since morning, no action was taken; the situation remained inconsistent, with some areas without power and on inverters, while others had supply. The voltage also remained low,” said Ashish Tyagi, a resident of Gyan Khand.Similar complaints regarding voltage fluctuations were reported from several sectors in Noida due to the power cuts which continued from Sunday through Monday.Meanwhile, Raveesh Gupta, MD PVVNL, inspected two new under-construction substations of 33/11 kV capacity in Sectors 94 and 132 over the weekend.During the visit, he examined the ongoing construction work and electrical infrastructure at the new substation sites and directed officials to expedite construction while strictly adhering to prescribed technical and quality standards and ensure regular monitoring of the work.The two new substations are being built under the RDSS (Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme), which focuses on the construction of several new substations alongside capacity enhancements of existing substations by adding higher-capacity transformers. The scheme also includes extensive laying of high- and low-tension underground cables, which will reduce technical losses and protect lines from weather conditions, especially rains.Gupta also instructed that the substations be completed and energised before Diwali so that consumers could reap the benefits.“Significant work is underway to strengthen and modernise the power distribution network under the RDSS modernisation scheme. The construction of these new substations will boost the region’s power distribution system and help ensure a better, reliable power supply that meets the growing electricity demand,” said Gupta.
