Bengaluru: Commuters travelling on Namma Metro’s Green Line faced major inconvenience Tuesday morning after a power failure disrupted train services for more than 45 minutes during peak hours.Train operations between Yeshwantpur and Madavara were suspended from around 8am following the breakdown, affecting nine stations between Goraguntepalya and Madavara. During the disruption, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) operated loop services only between Silk Institute and Yeshwantpur, leaving commuters stranded at stations in the northern section of the corridor on Tumakuru Road side.According to BMRCL officials, power supply was restored at 8.45am, following which normal services resumed across the entire Green Line from Silk Institute to Madavara. The disruption forced hundreds of commuters to seek alternate modes of transport. Regular passengers expressed frustration over the increasing frequency of service interruptions, questioning the reliability of the Metro network.“Bangalore Metro charges the highest fares in the country, yet service quality remains disappointing. Frequent disruptions and an unreliable traction system continue to affect commuters, raising serious concerns about reliability and value for money,” said Kiran Kumar, replying to BMRCL’s public notice on social media platform X.Several passengers also questioned why they had to pay the minimum parking fee at stations despite train services remaining suspended for a considerable period.5 disruptions in 30 daysTuesday’s incident is the latest in a series of disruptions that have affected Namma Metro network. In 30 days, at least five service interruptions have been reported due to third-rail faults, power failures, technical glitches and other operational issues.Amid repeated breakdowns, commissioner of Metro railway safety (CMRS) recently directed BMRCL to conduct a comprehensive operational and safety audit to identify systemic issues and improve service reliability.
