Nagpur: The already dilapidated Bhilgaon Road has become virtually impassable following the recent heavy rainfall. Located near the Pili River, this crucial stretch now resembles a patchwork of water-filled potholes and eroded asphalt, leading to frequent traffic snarls and vehicular damage — especially for school vans, buses and two-wheelers.The worsening condition of the road has left motorists frustrated. Vehicles crawl as they attempt to navigate the cratered surface, often hitting sudden bumps and losing balance. “After every rain, the potholes fill up with water, making it extremely difficult to gauge the depth. It’s not just uncomfortable, it’s dangerous,” said Shahnawaz Sheikh, a daily commuter who lives nearby.Kashish Telgote, another local, said that a couple fell off after their motorcycle hit one of the potholes at high speed. “Such accidents are a usual occurrence here,” she said. However, no complaints have been lodged with either the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) or the traffic police, a lapse that may be contributing to the lack of action from authorities. A source in the Indora traffic police told TOI that the department confirmed this. “This is the first time we are hearing about the bad condition of the road and accidents caused by it. So far, no citizen has approached us with any report. If such issues are brought to our notice, we can reach out to the appropriate road maintenance authority on behalf of citizens,” the officer said. The stretch is an important route for local school vans, private buses, and small goods carriers. Several residents fear that the condition may worsen rapidly as monsoon intensifies in the coming weeks. “This road will then become unmotorable,” said another commuter adding, “We need urgent patchwork or even resurfacing.”
