Hyderabad: A decade on, residents of Tellapur are still waiting for the completion of the 7.7 km key radial road, with their daily commutes turning into a struggle due to potholes, gravel and uneven surfaces. These incomplete roads are the main link for nearly 80,000 residents to the Financial District, Lingampally railway station and the ORR, making travel slow and frustrating.Residents say the situation is particularly disappointing given that they pay some of the highest property taxes in Greater Hyderabad, yet continue to deal with unfinished infrastructure and poor road conditions. They argue that poor road conditions are not only inconvenient, but also unsafe, particularly during peak hours and the monsoon season when sections of the road become slushy and prone to accidents. The Tellapur Neighbourhood Association has recently written to the Cyberabad municipal corporation, stating that the current condition of the road is extremely poor, with damaged sections and potholes. According to the association, this has resulted in frequent accidents, vehicle damage, and serious safety risks for commuters.“Every day feels like an off-road drive. The roads are full of potholes and loose gravel, and it becomes impossible to walk or drive in the rain. Moreover, travel time has nearly doubled due to the poor condition of the roads. It now takes me over 30 minutes to reach the Financial District, which should ideally take 15–20 minutes. The roads are the biggest bottleneck,” said M Venkat, a resident of Tellapur.Parents are particularly worried about schoolchildren. “School buses and autos struggle to navigate these roads. We are constantly worried about safety, especially when heavy vehicles use the same routes,” said Deepthi Reddy, a parent.Residents also point out that the area’s rapid real estate growth has not been matched by infrastructure development. Thousands of apartments have been built in the last decade, but the roads remain unfinished. Although the authorities allowed construction, basic connectivity is still lacking.According to officials, about 50% of the radial road works in Tellapur have been completed so far, with delays largely attributed to funding constraints and land acquisition hurdles. “The project is now set for a reset, with the remaining works being handed over to the Cyberabad municipal corporation, and execution will finally pick up pace,” said an official in the engineering wing, Roads & Buildings department.
