Mumbai: A large pothole on the road near the income tax office, Churchgate, has drawn the ire of motorists. Activist Santosh Daundkar said that the road falls under the jurisdiction of the central roads department of the civic body, and a contract worth Rs 5 crore was reportedly awarded for road maintenance across Wards A, B, C, and D, all of which come under Zone-I of the BMC. However, the execution of the work was unsatisfactory.“This pothole is a large one and has existed for over a month. No action was taken to repair it, despite complaints. The pothole is causing disruption in traffic movement, including the movement of govt vehicles, school buses, cars, etc. Incidents of two-wheeler riders falling due to the depression were witnessed,” said Daundkar.Daundkar complained that the stretch of Maharshi Karve Road from Churchgate to Charni Road has several damaged patches. “Joint cutting and proper filling with asphalt on the concrete road were not completed,” Daundkar added.A BMC official said it was not exactly a pothole but a result of an incomplete work.BMC additional commissioner Abhijit Bangar said, “Potholes have to be attended to on a regular basis, and we have appointed an agency for the same. Potholes, which were brought to our notice, will be attended to in the night itself. We will also examine why the pothole was not attended to.” Bangar also added that action will be initiated against the concerned official.
