Ahmedabad: The 24-year-old commercial pilot accused of driving a Porsche car at high speed on city roads has denied travelling anywhere near 300kmph as alleged. He told Navrangpura police that he was driving at around 60-62kmph.The pilot, who works for a UAE-based commercial airline, claimed that a photograph circulating on social media showing the car’s speedometer at 300kmph was morphed or AI-generated, said investigating officer PSI A C Zala.“He has claimed that he was driving within the permissible speed limits,” Zala added.Police had registered an FIR on Tuesday after a video of a silver Porsche allegedly being driven at high speed came to their notice. The vehicle, registered in Gandhinagar, was allegedly driven from HCG Hospital towards M B Patel Rashtrabhasha Arts and Commerce College in Mithakhali and later towards Law Garden.According to police, the alleged incident occurred around 1.30pm on August 22. The footage was reportedly uploaded on Instagram and came to the attention of personnel at the Law Garden police outpost. Police subsequently traced the vehicle.An offence was registered under provisions of BNS relating to rash driving on a public way and various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. Police seized the Porsche on Wednesday and served a notice on the pilot to appear for questioning.“We will examine CCTV footage from the route and other available evidence to determine whether an offence took place. We will also verify the claims made by the accused,” Zala said.
