Vadodara: A porcupine strayed into the campus of Navrachana University in the Bhayli area on Tuesday morning, prompting staff members to alert the forest department.University staff first spotted the animal on the premises and informed officials, after which a team from the forest department rushed to the campus. By the time they arrived, the porcupine had climbed up the building using the staircase and reached the fifth floor, where it entered a room.Forest officials eventually located the animal and placed a cage outside the room. After a brief wait, the porcupine walked into the trap, allowing the team to safely capture it and take it away. The university had only a few students on campus as it was early in the morning. Staff members remained cautious since porcupines have sharp, barbed quills that can cause serious injuries.Officials said the ravines along the Vishwamitri have a significant population of porcupines. The animals occasionally wander into the city. In the past, porcupines were spotted in the Sama area and on Rajmahal Road during late at night. Navrachna University has a sprawling campus with a lot of green cover. Porcupines prefer wooded areas and grasslands.
