Rajkot: A 47-year-old history-sheeter and alleged gang leader from Porbandar district was detained in Mumbai and arrested on Wednesday, for allegedly sexually assaulting his 17-year-old daughter repeatedly over the past six years.The matter came to light after the minor contacted the 112 emergency helpline on Oct 2. An emergency response team dispatched to the location brought the teenager to the Harbour Marine police station. During counseling and questioning, she detailed years of alleged abuse by her father.Porbandar Rural deputy superintendent of police Surjeet Mahedu confirmed that an FIR was registered at the Harbour Marine police station based on the survivor’s complaint. The accused has been booked under Indian Penal Code Sections 376(2)(F), 376(2)(N), 376(2)(J), 376(A)(B), and 506(2), alongside Sections 4, 6, 8, and 10 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.After the registration of the offense, police teams were deployed to apprehend the accused. Acting on technical surveillance and human intelligence, the Porbandar local crime branch tracked him to a hotel in Mumbai, where he was detained.According to investigators, the victim stated that her father coerced her into silence by making her swear on the lives of her mother and younger brother, warning her of dire consequences if she disclosed the abuse. Distressed by his ongoing conduct, the victim’s mother eventually advised her to secretly contact the police for help. Police noted that the accused commanded influence and fear in his village, leaving both residents and his own family members hesitant to confront him.Police records indicate the accused is a hardened offender with approximately 16 past cases registered against him, spanning charges of murder, attempted murder, extortion, and prohibition violations. He was previously booked under the Gujarat Control of Terrorism and Organised Crime (GujCTOC) Act. Further investigation is underway.
