Hyderabad: Revenue and housing minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Saturday urged Union rural development minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to sanction at least three lakh houses this year and another two lakh next year in rural areas of Telangana under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Grameen (PMAY- G 2.0).Srinivas Reddy met the Union minister in the city and said the Congress govt has joined the PMAY (2.0). In a representation submitted to Shivraj Singh, he said the Centre did not sanction housing units to Telangana under PMAY (1.0) as the previous BRS govt had not joined the PMAY (1.0). He said the present Congress govt had joined the PMAY 2.0, conducted a comprehensive house-to-house survey and prepared a database of eligible beneficiaries.He said that, as per central guidelines, a survey was conducted again through the Awas+2024 mobile app and 11.57 lakh eligible rural families were identified.Stating that there was a huge demand for housing units in rural areas because the previous BRS govt did not construct them between 2014 and 2023, Srinivas Reddy said the incumbent govt in the state was giving top priority to the construction of houses for the poor.He said the state has set a target of constructing houses for all eligible poor in the next three years and that about four lakh Indiramma houses have been sanctioned this year. He said the programme would be further accelerated if the central govt helps.The state housing minister said that in Aug 2024, the central govt approved PMAY-G 2.0 and decided to sanction houses on saturation basis after updating the Awas+2018 survey, and that 1.19 crore houses were allotted to other states for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 fiscal based on old data. He said Telangana has not been given even a single housing unit because the state did not participate in PMAY 1.0.He appealed to the Union minister to sanction three lakh houses in this financial year and another two lakh houses next fiscal, and said he hoped the central govt would respond positively.
