Jaipur: Tightening monitoring after recent Supreme Court observations on pollution in Jojari and Luni rivers, Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RPCB) has initiated action against textile manufacturers in Balotra accused of outsourcing processes to illegal units in villages along the Jodhpur district border to evade environmental norms.The move follows a joint enforcement drive by RPCB and the district administration in Shergarh Friday, during which several illegal textile processing units were demolished, and potential evidence in the form of documents, records and transport bills was seized.“A scrutiny of documents seized by RPCB has revealed that some textile units in Balotra were outsourcing fabric processing tasks to illegal units along the border areas of Jodhpur. Their objective was to evade environmental compliance and pollution control regulations,” an official involved in the enforcement drive said.After an examination, the RPCB’s local office forwarded the seized material and related documents to the board’s regional officer in Balotra for initiation of formal action against the textile units found in violation.It has recommended action against them under the Water Prevention and Control of Pollution Act, the Air Prevention and Control of Pollution Act and other applicable environmental laws.RPCB Jodhpur rural regional officer Jagdish Choudhary said textile units found violating pollution control norms, engaging illegal third-party units or trying to evade environmental compliance will face strict legal action.“RPCB is committed to ensuring that no textile unit escapes pollution control enforcement,” he said.Officials said the RPCB will hold accountable both textile manufacturers found outsourcing processes to circumvent environmental laws, as well as the illegal units they are outsourced to. Further drives to curb similar violations will continue in cooperation with the district administration, they added.
