Madikeri: An awareness programme was organised by Kodagu district police for students at the govt Pre-University College in Madikeri Thursday, marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.Speaking at the event, district SP Bindu Mani said students are increasingly falling prey to the drug network in recent times. “Children and youth are falling prey to drugs. Not only do they use drugs, but by supplying them to others, they end up falling into the eyes of the law and being jailed as accused,” she stated.She added that drug abuse damages family relationships and leaves the future bleak, urging youth to stay away from addiction and focus on health.Medical officer Dr Umesh Babu informed students about the ill effects of drug use and addiction. Drug use has a serious impact on brain function, he said, adding that mental and physical health problems increase among addicts.
