Mysuru: State BJP general secretary Preetham Gowda Thursday urged party activists, workers and elected representatives to take the special intensive revision (SIR) of the voters’ list seriously. He was speaking at a meeting organised by the district BJP unit in connection with the SIR exercise at a private hotel in the city.Gowda said the Election Commission has launched a door-to-door voter list preparation campaign to ensure free, fair and transparent elections by removing ineligible beneficiaries. The exercise will be held from June 29 to July 30 in the state, including Mysuru district.During the drive, ineligible voters, including bogus voters, deceased individuals, multiple booth registrants and non-citizens, will be removed from the electoral rolls.“This is not an exercise of deletion or inclusion of voters. A new voters’ list will be prepared by this exercise. As there are all possibilities of removal of voters, including sitting MLAs, former MLAs, other leaders and citizens if the voters failed to provide exact information during the drive,” he said, urging party workers and elected representatives, including MLAs, gram panchayat members and MCC council members, to take the exercise seriously.During the door-to-door exercise, he said, party activists must set up special desks, help citizens understand documentation requirements and ensure that documents are submitted to booth-level officers for enrolment in electoral rolls. He asked workers to remain vigilant and ensure eligible voters are properly mapped with required documents, as ineligible voters will be eliminated during the drive. He added that the future of elections will depend on this exercise and appealed to party workers to assist in the inclusion of genuine voters by helping them fill out the prescribed forms distributed by booth-level officers.MLA TS Srivatsa, MLC R Raghu, former minister N Mahesh and state BJP vice-president M Rajendra were present.
