Mangaluru: Mangaluru City police took five students of a private college in the city into custody on Friday, in connection with a ragging case reported at Mangaluru South police station.Those taken into custody are Rehan MP,19, from Payyannur, Mohammed Uvais,19, from Kasaragod, Mohammed Adil,19, from Kozhikode, Rohan Ramesh,19, from Payyannur and Naseed Ameer,19, from Kannur.Police registered a case against nine students of a private college in the city on Wednesday. A case was registered based on a complaint filed by Ameer Ali,19, a resident of Edakkazhiyoor, Chavakkad, Keralam. According to the complainant, the accused kidnapped, assaulted and ragged him and his classmate Mahammed Alfaz on Aug 19.A case was registered against nine students under Section 116 of the Karnataka Education Act, 1983, for ragging in educational institutions; Sections 140(3), 127(2), 115(2), 118(1), 351(2), 109, and 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
