Kanpur: Superintendent of Police Durgesh Kumar sent Kuthaund police station in-charge Ajay Pathak to lines and suspended Shankarpur outpost in-charge Kulwant Sharan after a broad daylight robbery in the Kuthaund police station area of Jalaun and the death of an injured woman during treatment. The robbery took place on Thursday near the Shankarpur police outpost under the Kuthaund police station area.Tej Singh, son of Sipahi Lal and a resident of Madiya village under Sirsa Kalar police station area, travelled with his wife, Rachna Devi, 35, on a bike to his in-laws’ place in Tirwa, district Kannauj. The couple shopped at Sirsa Kalar market and then proceeded.Near the Bhimsen temple close to Dharana village under the Shankarpur outpost, a bike-borne criminal approached from behind and snatched a bag from Rachna Devi’s hand. She lost balance due to the jolt, fell on the road, and suffered serious injuries. The criminal fled with the bag. Family members said the bag contained about Rs 20,000 in cash, a waist belt, and ear tops. Local people took her to the nearest hospital, from where she was referred to Auraiya due to her serious condition. She was later shifted from Auraiya to a hospital in Kanpur, where she died during treatment. The incident in broad daylight near a police outpost raised questions about law and order and security arrangements in the area, and local people expressed anger. Photographs of Kuthaund police station in-charge Ajay Pathak also surfaced, in which he was seen celebrating a birthday at a hotel with alleged criminals from outside the district. The SP took the matter seriously and acted. He said that any kind of negligence in duty and proximity with criminals would not be tolerated. He said the investigation was ongoing and police teams were deployed to search for those involved in the robbery. “The accused will be arrested soon and the case will be solved,” he said.
