Srinagar, Aug 17: Jammu and Kashmir Police have seized 10 vehicles and registered four FIRs in separate actions against illegal mining and unauthorised transportation of minor minerals in Anantnag and Shopian districts.
In Anantnag, police intercepted three tractors during patrolling in Mattigund and Chittergul and found them carrying illegally extracted bajri and boulders. The drivers allegedly failed to produce valid documents authorising the extraction or transportation of the material.
Police, in a statement said FIR No. 83/2026 was registered at the concerned police station and further investigation is underway.
In Shopian, police seized six tractors and a tipper in separate actions for allegedly being involved in unauthorised extraction and transportation of minerals.
A police team from Shopian police station seized a tractor and a tipper, following which FIR No. 163/2026 was registered. At Heerpora, two tractors carrying mining material without valid royalty documents were seized and FIR No. 80/2026 registered.
Similarly, a police team from Imamsahib seized three tractors allegedly involved in illegal mining without mandatory permissions. FIR No. 54/2026 was registered in the case.
Police said the crackdown was aimed at protecting natural resources and curbing illegal extraction and transportation of minor minerals.
The police warned that strict legal action would be taken against those violating mining laws and urged the public to report illegal mining and transportation activities.
