Mapusa: An unidentified person allegedly set a stray dog on fire at an open ground in Camurlim late Saturday night, police said.The incident came to light after the North Goa District Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) received information and alerted the authorities.SPCA officials and police who reached the location found the animal’s body completely charred. A complaint was subsequently lodged with Colvale police by the SPCA.SPCA official Dexter Braganza said it is suspected that the dog may have been killed at another location and the body later burnt to dispose of it, or that the animal was set on fire at the spot.Police have registered the case and further investigation is underway to identify the accused.Recently, Colvale police have registered an FIR against 64-year-old Dilip Khorjuvekar in connection with the killing of a stray dog in Camurlim. According to the complaint, on March 27, Khorjuvekar allegedly assaulted the dog with a baton and later abandoned it in the river, near the Camurlim jetty, leading to its death.
