Hyderabad: Indalwai police in Nizamabad interrogated suspects in the murder case of Congress leader Immadi Gopi to find out the motive behind the killing and to ascertain who else was involved in the murder conspiracy.Police said it was evident that the victim’s nephew, D Sathish, is the main accused since his car was involved in the crime, but they wanted to establish the role of others.Police sources said that in her complaint, Gopi’s first wife, Laxmi, named their nephew, Sathish, and locals Santhosh Reddy, Narsaiah, Devendar, Sridhar and Ravi as accused in her husband’s murder.Police took Sathish and four more suspects into custody for questioning. Preliminary interrogation revealed Sathish directly participated in the assault and used his own SUV to ram Gopi’s car.“Sathish used to be very close to his uncle till few years ago. Differences cropped up when Sathish expected Gopi to give six acres from ancestral agricultural land as his mother’s share but Gopi allegedly gave only two acres. There were several arguments about the land,” said a police official from Indalwai.Police suspected another grudge was linked to Gopi’s influence in local politics. Gopi’s second wife Hemalatha is currently the sarpanch of Gouraram panchayat. “Before Hemalatha, Gopi’s first wife Laxmi was sarpanch twice and Gopi was Mandal Parishad President (MPP) for Dharpally. Some locals with political aspirations including Sathish, were upset with Gopi solely retaining political power in the area. Due to this animosity, Sathish contested as a rebel against Hemalatha in 2025 sarpanch elections and lost,” said a senior official of Nizamabad commissionerate.Dichpally CI Vinod said they were questioning some suspects to find out the exact motive and all the accused involved in the conspiracy.
