Nagpur: A 35-year-old police officer attached to the application branch of Nagpur City police commissioner’s office was found motionless at his home in police headquarters near Old Katol Chowk in the early hours of Sunday, and was later declared dead at Mayo Hospital. He likely died by suicide after a tiff with his wife, said police.The deceased, Dnyaneshwar Jhol, an assistant police inspector, was found kneeling with a saree tied around his neck around 1am in the hall of his quarter at Police Line Takli, said police. Jhol had twin children, a son and a daughter, aged three-and-a-half years. He tied the saree which was used to cradle the twins, said police.Jhol’s wife, Puja, untied the knot and immediately sought help from neighbours before alerting the control room. Neighbours and family members attempted to revive Jhol with CPR before rushing him to hospital. Police soon reached the spot.On Puja’s complaint, a case of accidental death was registered at Gittikhadan police station.Sources said Jhol had returned home after meeting friends at the police rest house in Civil Lines. He reportedly had an argument with his wife. The couple was in a strained relationship, and Jhol had threatened to take a drastic step, said sources.Jhol was known among colleagues for his friendly nature and was regarded as an honest officer. His sudden death has left the Nagpur City police shocked. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
