Nagpur: Two murders within 24 hours rocked the city as the police force was busy with security arrangements for Independence Day. A man was killed by his brother in Mahal late on Saturday night while a milk vendor was killed in Ramgiri slum near Seminary Hills on Friday night.A family dispute turned fatal when Akshay Shette (28), a resident of Attaroli, was allegedly killed by his brother in Mahal under Ganeshpeth police station limits. Akshay’s friends Ankit Chavan and Akash Patle sustained injuries in the attack.The accused have been identified as Akshay’s elder brother, Mayur (33), Ritesh alias Sonu Denge of Gadikhana, Amol alias Bhurya Khursod of Nandanvan, and Arpit Budhe of Colonel Bagh.Cops said that Akshay was a habitual drunkard and regularly assaulted his grandmother. On Saturday night, Akshay again beat her. The incident angered Mayur, who along with his aides decided to teach Akshay a lesson. An argument broke out after they spotted Akshay with his friends Ankit and Akash near a clinic on Ashok Chowk Road.The argument turned violent, and the four allegedly attacked Akshay, Ankit, and Akash with sharp weapons before fleeing from the spot. The three injured were shifted to a hospital where Akshay died during treatment. Ganeshpeth police registered a murder case and arrested Mayur. The other three accused are on the run.In another incident, Chandan Siraswar (43), a milk vendor from Gawalipura in Dharampeth, was murdered over a petty issue in the Ramgiri slum area under Sadar police station limits.Chandan was sitting near a pan kiosk on Friday night when Sagar Bhondekar (27), having a past record of ganja peddling, crashed his e-rickshaw into a tea stall. Chandan abused Sagar over the incident.Angered over the rebuke, Sagar returned to the spot with Rishikesh Kanojia (19), Rahul Salame (19), and a minor. The gang assaulted Chandan and struck him on the head with a paver block. Chandan was rushed to Mayo Hospital where doctors declared him dead.Sadar police registered a murder case and arrested Rishikesh and Rahul, and took the minor into custody. Sagar, having past cases of drug trafficking, is yet to be arrested.
