Kendrapada: A former assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police was convicted by the special judge, vigilance, Cuttack, on Thursday in a bribery case and sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine.The convicted officer, Amiya Kumar Behera, was serving as an ASI at Jenapur police station in Jajpur district when the offence was committed. He was later posted to Athagarh police station in Cuttack district.According to Odisha vigilance, Behera was charge-sheeted under sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) and 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for demanding and accepting a bribe from a complainant in exchange for compromising a miscellaneous allegation lodged against him at the police station.Following conviction, Odisha vigilance said it would move competent authorities to initiate proceedings for Behera’s dismissal from service in accordance with the rules governing convicted public servants.
